Different types of Iron

Definition of Iron

Iron (Fe) is one of the most abundant metals found in nature and has been among the most widely used construction materials throughout human history. Thanks to its durability, workability, and abundance, iron has become a cornerstone of the global economy since the Industrial Revolution.

Importance of Iron in Industry

Today, iron is an indispensable raw material for many industries around the world. In construction, automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, machinery production, and the energy sector, iron provides durable and economical solutions. As the backbone of modern infrastructure projects, iron offers both high strength and cost-effectiveness.

Prominent Areas of Use:

  • Building and bridge construction
  • Automotive and heavy vehicle manufacturing
  • Power plants and pipeline infrastructure
  • Industrial machinery and equipment manufacturing

General Properties of Iron

The physical and chemical properties of iron make it an ideal material for various applications. Key properties include:

  • High Strength: Offers a high strength-to-weight ratio.
  • Formability: Easily shaped through cold and hot working processes.
  • Magnetic Properties: Preferred for use in electric motors and generators.
  • Low Cost: Significantly more economical compared to many other metals.
  • Alloy Compatibility: Can be alloyed with carbon and other elements to create superior materials like steel.

Iron's Role in the Global Supply Chain

Iron plays a critical role not only in local projects but also in the global economy. Iron ore constitutes a significant portion of international trade, supporting extensive production and consumption networks worldwide.

Note: Thanks to the quality and variety of our iron products, we offer solutions that meet global standards for our customers.

What is Iron Pellet?

Iron pellet is a product obtained by transforming enriched iron ore into small, spherical particles. Iron pellets, particularly used in blast furnaces and direct reduction (DRI) plants, are one of the key raw materials that enhance efficiency and quality in steel production.

Thanks to their homogeneous structure and high iron content, iron pellets are preferred worldwide. They play a critical role in ensuring the continuity and quality of steel production, especially in large-scale industrial facilities.

Iron Pellet Production Process

The iron ore is first crushed, ground, and subjected to various magnetic separation processes. It is then sent to pellet presses under high pressure to form spherical shapes. In the final stage, the pellets are sintered to achieve mechanical strength.

Note: Environmentally friendly technologies are used during the production process to achieve lower carbon emissions.

Properties of Iron Pellet

  • High Fe (iron) content (between 64%–68%)
  • Low silica (SiO₂) and alumina (Al₂O₃) contents
  • Standard diameter (between 9–16 mm)
  • High compressive strength
  • High metallurgical efficiency

Applications of Iron Pellet

  • Steel production in blast furnaces
  • Direct reduction plants (DRI production)
  • Electric arc furnaces
  • Environmentally friendly steel production projects

Why Should You Purchase Iron Pellet?

  • Lower waste generation and environmentally friendly production
  • Energy savings and reduced production costs
  • Improved steel quality
  • Production compliant with international standards (ISO 9001, CE)

What is Iron Concentrate?

Iron concentrate is an iron raw material obtained by physically and chemically processing natural iron ore to achieve a high degree of purification. Iron concentrate is a critical product that directly impacts quality in both steel production and pellet production.

Thanks to its high Fe (iron) content and low impurity levels, iron concentrate provides significant advantages in terms of energy savings, environmentally friendly production, and the quality of the final product.

Iron Concentrate Production Process

The iron ore is first crushed and ground. Then, separation processes based on density differences (such as magnetic separation, flotation, etc.) are applied to enrich the iron minerals. As a result, a concentrate product with a high Fe content is obtained.

Note: In modern facilities, technologies with low energy consumption are employed to achieve more sustainable production.

Properties of Iron Concentrate

  • Fe content typically ranges between 66%–70%
  • Low phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) contents
  • Fine particle size (<75 microns)
  • High density and homogeneous structure
  • Compliance with international quality standards

Applications of Iron Concentrate

  • Primary raw material in iron pellet production plants
  • Direct use in blast furnaces
  • DRI (Direct Reduction) technologies
  • Ferroalloy and special steel production
  • Environmentally friendly, low-carbon emission projects

Why Should You Purchase Iron Concentrate?

  • Increased efficiency thanks to high purity levels
  • Lower slag and waste generation
  • Reduced energy consumption and production costs
  • Certified quality assurance (ISO, CE)

What is Iron Billet?

An iron billet is a semi-finished product formed by cooling molten steel into rectangular or square cross-section masses through a continuous casting process. As one of the fundamental building blocks of the steel production process, iron billets constitute the first step in the manufacturing of many final products.

Thanks to their mechanical properties, standard dimensions, and workability, iron billets are in high demand both in local and international markets.

Iron Billet Production Process

Iron ore or scrap is melted in a blast furnace or an electric arc furnace to produce molten steel. It is then solidified into specific cross-sectional dimensions using continuous casting machines and prepared either for hot rolling or direct sale.

Note: Continuous casting technology ensures a more homogeneous structure and reduces production losses.

Properties of Iron Billet

  • Standard dimensions: 100x100 mm, 120x120 mm, 130x130 mm, etc.
  • High surface quality
  • Homogeneous internal structure with minimal segregation
  • Possibility of production with various carbon and alloy compositions
  • High tensile strength and ductility

Applications of Iron Billet

  • Production of rebar (Reinforced Construction Rebar)
  • Production of steel rods and profiles
  • Manufacturing of wire and wire rods
  • Production of industrial machinery parts
  • Shipbuilding and heavy industry applications

Why Should You Purchase Iron Billet?

  • Low waste rate and high efficiency
  • Production in compliance with international standards (EN, ASTM, DIN norms)
  • Options for special alloy production
  • Guaranteed product quality through continuous quality control processes

What is Reinforced Rebar?

Reinforced rebar is a type of steel rod with special surface protrusions (ribs) designed to ensure a strong bond between concrete and steel in reinforced concrete structures. Thanks to its high tensile strength and excellent bonding properties, it is particularly preferred in earthquake-prone regions.

By supporting the tensile strength of concrete, it enhances structural durability and extends the lifespan of buildings. For this reason, it has become an indispensable material in modern construction projects.

Reinforced Rebar Production Process

Molten steel is first formed into billets using continuous casting machines, and then it is hot rolled into rebars of specific diameters. During production, controlled cooling and heat treatment processes are applied to increase mechanical strength.

Note: Production is carried out in accordance with European standards (EN 10080) and Turkish standards (TS 708).

Properties of Reinforced Rebar

  • High tensile and yield strength
  • Maximum concrete adhesion with standard ribbed surface pattern
  • High ductility and impact resistance
  • Resistance to corrosion and atmospheric conditions
  • Diameter range: 8 mm – 40 mm

Applications of Reinforced Rebar

  • Residential projects (apartments, housing complexes)
  • Commercial buildings (shopping malls, hotels)
  • Bridges, viaducts, and tunnels
  • Port and dam construction projects
  • Infrastructure and industrial facility constructions

Why Should You Purchase Reinforced Rebar?

  • Provides higher safety and durability in your structures
  • Up to 30% longer-lasting performance in reinforced concrete projects
