CAN is a neutral-character fertilizer that can be used on all types of soil without altering soil pH. It is produced by adding lime to ammonium nitrate fertilizer to eliminate the negative properties of ammonium nitrate. The granules are gray or light brown and free-flowing, containing 25-28% nitrogen. Half of the nitrogen content is in ammonium form (NH4), and the other half is in nitrate form (NO3), making it similar to ammonium nitrate fertilizer. Unlike ammonium nitrate, CAN has a neutral effect on soil pH.
Nitrate nitrogen is quickly absorbed by plant roots during rapid growth and fruiting periods. The majority of the nitrogen in ammonium form is retained by soil particles and later converted to nitrate nitrogen by soil bacteria, ensuring plants do not suffer from nitrogen deficiency. CAN fertilizer is widely used as a top-dressing fertilizer before hoeing and irrigation, particularly for cereals like wheat and barley. It should not be used in rice cultivation.
CAN 26% fertilizer should not be stored in the same environment as Urea 46% fertilizer.
CAN 26% fertilizer is used as a top-dressing fertilizer for all cultivated plants, especially cereals like wheat and barley, during hoeing and irrigation.
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) fertilizer is used as a top-dressing fertilizer in agriculture, particularly in areas where irrigation is possible or where lime is present in the soil. It is especially recommended for regions with high rainfall as a filler material. In areas with less rainfall, ammonium nitrate (AN33) is preferred. CAN fertilizer can be applied to all cereals, vegetables, fruit trees, olives, vineyards, cotton, corn, and sunflowers. It is used as a top-dressing fertilizer for all plants except rice and can be applied before irrigation in any season of the year.
Due to its neutral characteristics, CAN can be used in all soil and plant leaf structures. Depending on the plant's nitrogen needs and the number of irrigation cycles, it should be applied 2 to 3 times throughout the growing season. With its fast-dissolving nature and the ability to leave no residue in water, CAN fertilizer is also suitable for use in drip irrigation systems.
